This size is ideal for a small dog. My fur baby weighs about 13 pounds. she likes to sleep on it, even in summer. She rolls over him and rubs her face against him. I keep the Sherpa side up. To be honest she sleeps in my bed but spends a lot of time on it during the day. She's about 11 years old and I love that she doesn't have to sleep on the floor. She will not use the dog bed. I washed it and it seems fine. You may think I'm crazy, but I left it in bed for a few days after washing it, and my smell got on it, as did my husband. Now when we go out and she's alone for hours, she leaves our scent on her blanket on the floor. If you need extra padding, you can put it on a cheap pillow. I have a Persons sherpa blanket for me lol
