I connected this converter between my ISP's cable modem/router and my home theater ethernet switch to break any conductive path between them. This cheap insurance should give me peace of mind that if my cable modem goes down, my equipment won't be taken away. It was ready to go right out of the box – it was quick and easy to connect, and there was no software to install and configure. Some say it improves sound quality too. I don't see how, but the statement might be legal; Since doing this, the overall sound seems a little cleaner.
