Review on 🔧 FJC 6905 High Performance 1.5 CFM Vacuum Pump by Matthew Gonzales

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Mostly junk, poor quality, but it works.

*sigh* Bought this pump for an AC vacuum system, worked *great* straight away. Then I put it aside, pumped air into the AC to check for leaks, and fired it up again to suck the system. *HUMMMMMMMMMM SPARK*. Died before I could pull the plug. I figured I could pay the postage, send it back and get another one but I knew what was wrong so I decided to take it apart and see what it was made out of. Of course, the starter capacitor of the engine failed. Not out of service, the rivets holding the spade lugs to the capacitor material were faulty. In all these years I've never seen anything badly made, for an extra dollar they could probably get a proprietary capacitor instead of a generic one made in China. In any case, I replaced the capacitor, the device did not work. Why? The rocker switch they use is cheap and the overload caused by the capacitor failing and the motor not starting burned the switch. You could turn on a short circuit proof switch, but that would probably be worth the extra quarter. Or they could put in a circuit breaker, but that could cost extra dollars. Replaced the switch, installed a simple circuit breaker to be safe, and the pump buzzed like a clam. And it will probably take a long time. The thing is, this block just isn't very good in terms of production. It'll probably work once or twice, but if you put it aside for a year and use it again, you'll probably find it clicking HUMMMMMM SNAP. Which is a shame because it ends up being just another item in the landfill. Update 2015: still works with bypass, the switch was junk but strangely the pump is fine. That's why I'm giving it 2 stars after a few years of use. Chris
