Having had several kitchen thermometers in the past I wanted a more durable one, I needed one that was accurate with a long enough probe, an easy to read display and a relatively quick response time. My last digital thermometer was so weak the probe bent and broke and the previous one was ruined by a battery leak just a few months after purchase and the previous one could be off 15 degrees and it took too long to get the final result . Hints. Although the tip of the probe is thin and the device is therefore more delicate, beware of thermometers with a very thin overall probe as they are more prone to breakage. The probe of this thermometer is quite durable. When I tested its calibration in boiling water and a mixture of water and crushed ice, the accuracy was within 0.1 degrees, which is phenomenal. The display is large enough and dark enough to be easy to read, and temperature readings stabilize in seconds. The probe cover protects the probe very well and can be snapped onto the top of the thermometer to act as an extension, although it fits snugly so you have to pull hard to remove it. The maximum hold temperature feature comes in handy when using an extension cord that allows you to remove the sensor from the object being measured and raise it to eye level for a reading without losing readings! Considering I don't throw the entire thermometer into the food I'm measuring and don't pick up the device with food or grease on my hands, cleaning is very easy - you just need to wipe the sensor or use a soapy sponge and then rinse briefly. The fact that it's waterproof is a plus in case water gets on the device itself or if you really need to wipe it down with a damp sponge, but I don't see why you need to put it in the dishwasher to clean it and I would not recommend it. Overall I'm very happy with its performance, it's easy to use, easy to clean and accurate.
