Bottom line: You must pay shipping back to Garmin with an RMA number before they will work under warranty. It may take a few hours or more for you to issue an RMA number. The first Garmin Nuvi worked well so it was the same as my wife's last January. Although kept in her car and only used a couple of times, after 7 or 8 months it stopped working. No problem as the warranty is one year until you try to get the Garmin working. It took several calls to Garmin to wade through their menus before the caller line was short enough to even keep us waiting inside. (Sorry, we have a lot of customers waiting to be served, so we'll end your call.) Once you waited in line, it took at least an hour. The technician seemed unwilling to admit that the device just wasn't working. (Even offered to hook it up to the car while talking to a technician on the phone at home.) I think a lot of users turn down the warranty service they paid for. Exchange seems to have a problem. I have the same and it works fine. We have to resend the bad one for warranty service.
