Review on Dakota Alert MURS Alert Probe Sensor (MAPS): Wireless Metal Detection System with 50-FT Direct Burial Cable - Outdoor Monitoring at its Best! by Saul Rivera

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Dislikes terrain and trees.

I knew our application was going to be complicated. We live on top of a hill about 4300 feet distance and 700 feet elevation from our private driveway to the house. The well is timbered, which makes reliable reception difficult. Our receiver is in the house on a south-facing window. The best I could find was one transmitter west of my house and still get a good signal, was about 1100 feet. There is wood and a 50 foot bar between the transmitter and receiver. I suspect most installs aren't as complex as ours, so this is probably the bare minimum you can expect. I'm not particularly disappointed as it's definitely better than the alternative (nothing like that). The safe zone announcements are a bit mundane, but they get the job done. With a little improvement this could be a really good device. I will add a 12 volt battery as other reviewers have suggested. I seriously doubt CR123 batteries will survive the Wyoming winter. Update: We have two units. The CR123 batteries on both lasted exactly 3 months in our app. December temperatures were 20 to 30 degrees high / low to zero to 10 above.
