Description of Dakota Alert MURS Alert Probe Sensor (MAPS): Wireless Metal Detection System with 50-FT Direct Burial Cable - Outdoor Monitoring at its Best!

Automatically detects moving vehicles - The Dakota Alert MURS Alert Probe Sensor (MAPS) catches any moving vehicles that drive 14-ft near or over the probe. Never sends false alarm - The probe is only capable of detecting large metallic vehicles. It doesn't detect moving animals or strong winds. Wirelessly sends alert signals to MURS transceivers - MAPS can still send an alarm message to a MURS transceiver even if the radio is 2 miles away from the probe transmitter. Provides convenient power source - Four CR123 batteries power the MURS transmitter. Conveniently install it any driveway without worrying about electrical wall outlets. Compatible with - Dakota Alert MURS Transceivers: M538-BS Base Station, Handheld M538-HT Wireless VHF Transceiver.

Dislikes terrain and trees.

I knew our application was going to be complicated. We live on top of a hill about 4300 feet distance and 700 feet elevation from our private driveway to the house. The well is timbered, which makes reliable reception difficult. Our receiver is in the house on a south-facing window. The best I could find was one transmitter west of my house and still get a good signal, was about 1100 feet. There is wood and a 50 foot bar between the transmitter and receiver. I suspect most installs aren't as…

Has great features

I would like to give this product five stars. When it works it's great - it detected every vehicle crossing my street, very good range, no false alarms from animals (nearby lightning strikes sometimes set off an alarm, but I don't know if it's a transmitter or a sensor is). Recipient). However, I had to send the transmitter back to Dakota Alert several times during the first few months of use (and luckily the customer service department is a pleasure to work with). Short version: Over time, one

Increased stars through customer service

New review 1/12/19 Well, we had a bad cold just before Thanksgiving and the batteries were dead. So it looks like I got 3 months of it which is still better than 1 month but I wish it was better. New review from 10/27/19: 2 months have passed since the installation of the replacement device and the batteries. It still works great, much better than the previous module. I will let you know how long these batteries last but the last unit ate every month and this one is now 2 months old and working

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
