Terrible Home Decor Item Item

First off, the edges are very uneven, but since they're under the carpet, that doesn't really matter. The main problem is the chemical smell that comes out when I open the packaging and put it on the floor. I have used many carpets with all hardwood floors in my 18th century home and have never had this smell before. I can't put them in my adoptive daughter's bedroom so I threw them away.
