Review on Boomerang Two Step Touch Waiters Corkscrew by Jody Hatfield

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Okay but I wouldn't repurchase

I bought this because I needed a corkscrew that might be good for traveling and it was a two stage corkscrew with no blade. It also had great reviews. Unfortunately, it has two main problems. At first it looked like there was a positioning spring or something to set up the two-stage lever, but it broke on first use. I twisted the lever, felt the spring push (I think) and then a little "pop". Then the lever was not set automatically, but had to be positioned. Second, the two-stage part basically doesn't work for most of my (rather typical) wines. The foot section is angled so that the top step cannot come into contact with the bottle. Instead, I was told to only partially screw the corkscrew in, use the leg to partially pull the cork out, and then screw it back in and repeat. I'm sure this will break the cork soon, but this is the only way to use it. Coincidentally, because of this problem, pull taps have a loop in the middle of their two-stage lever. The foil removal part is decent and I definitely like it more than the blade. I'm not sure I'll like the TSA unit as I haven't ridden it yet. Overall I would not buy again. It's nowhere near as good as a pulltap corkscrew, and for travel I'd just grab one of the cheap $1-$2 bag types you can find anywhere. It's probably slightly better than this, but not 6x better. Hooray!

Pros
  • Done
Cons
  • That makes me nervous
