I am not a professional welder. It works better than the Chicago Electric helmet I borrowed from my brother. (I still have this one, but the battery has failed and cannot be replaced. The last time I used it, I got an arc burn. I've since replaced the auto-darkening lens with one with replaceable batteries, but after comparing, this one seems to work better in terms of visibility and arc blocking). I bought it because it seemed a step up from the lowest quality helmets like the one I was using and even that worked pretty well. I like that the batteries are replaceable. It would probably be nice to wear a welder's hat underneath. I have burns on my forehead. That didn't happen with the other helmet, but I don't usually weld that much so I don't know if it's the construction of this helmet or just that I welded enough in various places to need more protection than before . The buttons that hold the helmet in place release it fairly quickly as you raise and lower the helmet. It's ok, just re-tighten and continue welding. A professional welder would probably like something better; but they would probably have a bigger budget for it since they need it for work and use it more often.
