Great experience to be honest I had previously bought another ring compressor system and after cutting my finger and not even getting the first piston halfway in I jumped onto a Revain and bought this one. The thing worked like a charm for my 5.3 pistons. And it didn't feel like a disposable tool like the first one I bought. I know that if I ever need this tool again, I can get this tool from the bottom of my toolbox without worrying if it will work. I tried putting a tool on the plunger, but it was so uncumbersome and even handy at times that I couldn't hit her. Slightly compress the rings, then tighten with the dial and be sure to press the tool against the block before attempting to install the piston. At this point, use your hand to push the plunger in, or like I did, tap with a plastic mallet handle. You don't need a lot of force, but you do need speed to push the entire piston in.
