The latest version is scratching the piston!

These things used to be fine, but in this latest Taiwanese version, the grooves are punched the wrong way, causing sharp burrs to scratch your nice new piston and rings. You either have to spend a lot of time filing and sanding the burrs smooth, or take out the rivets and take the damn thing apart, flip the slotted tape and bend it again and hope for the best. All in all a waste of money.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • boring packaging

Not suitable for low-profile piston rings.

Cans don't work well because the buckle that pulls the band down only pulls down the middle of the harmonica band and the edges "flap" or "bend" causing the piston ring to break can avoid tightening effect. I ruined 2 piston rings with it. This product may work well on older full rimmed pistons, but the more modern, lower profile vk56de engine pistons did not work for me. A MUCH better choice is the hopper type ring compressor.

Good idea but seems fragile

This is an example of how you get what you paid for. Mine arrived with no rivets. So I had to fix it to be able to use it. As I will only be using it on my single cylinder bike it should only work once and I'm going insane. If you're looking for a good piston ring compressor for your garage, you might want to look at others. I see people using inexpensive ring compressors to rebuild an engine and wonder why when there are compressors with tapered rings to match their bore. Pop. listed…

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Big and bulky

This will scratch your pistons if you don't file the rough edges. When they punched out the slots that the band would hook into, they punched them towards the piston. This leaves raised, sharp ridges around the slotted holes that contact the piston and rings. If they stamped them the other way it would be nice. The holes are smooth and rounded on the side not touching the piston. The price was so cheap that I'll just file down the sharp edges with a small Swiss round file rather than returning…

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

Worked as expected in Suspension Tools

I used this to restore my 1200cc 4 cylinder sport bike. I bought 2 of these since #1 and #4 are on the compression stroke at the same time, as well as #2 and #3. Unlike car engines, I rebuilt where you put the pistons in the block and tighten the connecting rods from the bottom , the ends of the connecting rods are not accessible from below, so you must first mount and readjust the connecting rods/pistons on the crank. cylinder block above. It was a great pain. I set them to the correct…

  • Pretty impressive

  • I vaguely remember

Works well, unlike competitors.

Great experience to be honest I had previously bought another ring compressor system and after cutting my finger and not even getting the first piston halfway in I jumped onto a Revain and bought this one. The thing worked like a charm for my 5.3 pistons. And it didn't feel like a disposable tool like the first one I bought. I know that if I ever need this tool again, I can get this tool from the bottom of my toolbox without worrying if it will work. I tried putting a tool on the plunger, but…
