Way Out of Bluetooth Hell

I bought a TARGUS Bluetooth dongle about 5 years ago. I wanted to use a bluetooth headset but my computer didn't have that feature. Since then nothing but pain. Apparently the drivers were installed incorrectly during the initial installation and that has permanently messed up the device ever since. Works for several months, then refuses to work. It stopped checking for devices, needed new drivers, and no matter how many hours or days I spent troubleshooting, it always started working out of the blue. I had to use so many workarounds, obscure menus that I think I could never find again if I tried, it was hell. But this glorious thing was my way out of hell. I made sure all bluetooth software was uninstalled. I removed all drivers, manually removed all cached information and installed these. My computer recognized it and I entered the driver installation wizard. I installed generic Bluetooth drivers and everything worked great. It has a good range of about 15 feet, about 10 if the computer completely blocks the adapter. It connects very quickly, doesn't drop the connection, is very responsive, everything I could have hoped for. The old TARGUS key I had was also about $30, so this one is way better in every way.

Pros
  • Wide Range
Cons
  • Legacy Model
