Review on Santronics 3000 Ultimate Sensor 50 1000VAC by Richard Eledge

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best voltage tester made in USA

Everyone knows how annoying NCVTs can be. The cheap ones work but are unreliable and sometimes stop working. I have taken several NFPA courses and the electrical instructor recommended the Santronics 3115 tester as it is the only one that is OSHA approved. I received it and it's great. But NCVT audio is useful too, and the Santronics 3000 fills the bill. It's just as accurate and robust as the 3115 and doesn't have any of the crazy bells and whistles of more "sophisticated" devices. Santronics is also the only American company that manufactures NCVTs. I work as a mechanic in a hospital, so we often test and repair electrical equipment and circuits. I've had a few Kleins over the years and a great Fluke tester. Kleins are good, but they seem to have reliability issues over the long term. My Fluke is actually made by Santronics, but their new devices are not. Newer Fluke models also require a separate low voltage tester. Pros: • Always on • Bright light • Loud beeping sound • Aside from minor bumps that cause it to blink, I haven't had any false positives or negatives. • The polycarbonate construction is really strong. • Made in the USA • Great value. Disadvantages: • Unlike the Santronics 3115, which is purely cosmetic, the 3000 is not OSHA approved. Probably a bureaucratic thing since the 3115 is the ONLY OSHA approved tester.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Fair
