Review on πŸ“š Efficient Digital Filing Made Easy: NeatReceipts Mobile Scanner and Filing System for Mac by Aaron Johnson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

it's not perfect. but that's no problem.

So a good friend of mine who is a producer/DJ told me I need to know about this Neat scanner and I've always wanted one so I decided to adopt it. I'm actually glad I did it. The quality of the scanner is fantastic. In fact, I've dropped it several times on a hard wooden floor and it hasn't broken yet, which is very important to me. The quality of the scans is also good and the installation for my computer (MacMini) was easy and very easy. I didn't have a CD drive so I had to go to Neat.com to download the software. Scanning receipts is just as easy as organizing them in the Neat software. The ONLY issue I had is with number recognition, which I will address below. Most of the time this scanner doesn't seem to get all the numbers right. 6 would be 8, 1 would be 7, or 5 would be 4. It really seems to depend on the FONT the check is written in. Long receipts such as Best Buy will always be wrong. Completely dismiss the idea that this thing will read your chicken scratches, which you call handwriting. All restaurant receipts must be entered manually. Which, to Neat's credit, is surprisingly simple and doesn't take much time at all. Since not many receipts read "correctly", you get used to it after a while. What's frustrating is that when this thing works properly, the entire process from feeding the paper into the machine to moving on to the next item takes less than 30 seconds. However, if you think carefully and add the name of the company, taxes paid, etc., this easily becomes a 1 hour time in most cases. I'm an actor and DJ. I can cheat quite a bit, so even if this thing doesn't always work properly, it still saves me A LOT of time due to the sheer volume of things I can cheat on. Just the fact that I can throw away all that paper with this thing is a blessing. The only area where Neat can improve this scanner is in resolution, which allows numbers to be scanned more clearly. Not a bad try either.
