Bought this feeder because it said it holds 5 pounds of seed and has tallow holders. I weighed how many seeds it can hold on my postal scale and it only holds about 4-4.5 pounds of seeds. The only other problem with it is that it doesn't have a hook to hang it. It comes with a short rope without an end. I live on the second floor and wanted to make sure it wouldn't come loose. I ended up untying the "no" and then tying it back to the dog leash hook. Then I hot glued the rope to keep it from coming loose. This works very well. Every day several large flocks of small birds flew to my feeding station, as well as at least 5 male cardoons and woodpeckers. I had to fill this feeder every 36 hours they ate so much. It took some birds some time to learn how to eat from it since the perch is so close to the hopper. After about a week, the carnelian learned to eat, and soon after, a woodpecker appeared. I've found that the birds scatter a lot of seeds when doing this, and I think they do it on purpose. My birds eat from the feeder and from the ground at the same time. Sometimes there are long queues for birds. I've also found that due to space limitations, only about 2 birds will eat from one side at a time. This feeder is very easy to fill. The top comes up easily and I can fill it with my 3 liter spoon (from my local grocery store). I would say this feeder holds around 3 liters of seed, maybe a little more.
