At first I thought that I would not like this purchase because it was difficult for me to cut carrots. But after watching a few demo videos on youtube I tried again and to my amazement it worked like a dream (you have to pierce the veggies with the holder and move evenly from the very top of the platform to the blade - don't get too close to the blade). I use a bow in almost everything I do and I find this food slicer makes the job wonderful and easy. The onion retains its character (rather than being ground into a pulp in a food processor). And it cuts tomatoes fantastically. I haven't tried any fancier cuts yet, but even now I can recommend this food slicer without hesitation.
