This set contains four grits of stones (that's all you really need) and a selection of accessories to make your job easier. The key is a block of wood to hold the stone at a comfortable angle. A plastic guide that holds the blade at a certain angle is a good idea, but only makes sense for blades of a certain width. Gloves are good if you're worried about scratching your hands on a rock (although they're too small for me). Those things aside, all it takes to sharpen most kitchen knives (and axes and the like) is craftsmanship, and there are videos online for that. These whetstones are not enough if you have very hard knives or other tools. To do this, you need a diamond. This set is suitable for most household purposes and most knives.
