The float switch that comes with the kit is not to be relied on. Prior to installation, I tested the device by simulating a low position (dangling it) and then raising the float to its corresponding high position. The device will alarm and then stop alarming when the float orientation changes as expected. So I installed it. I started filling the sump with the hose until the unit "floated" (water at least 6 inches above the float level) but the alarm didn't go off. I grabbed him, lifted him into an upright position because he didn't want to swim like that, and eventually he started to worry. I reconnected the pump so it drains the sump properly. At this point the device was hanging completely vertically down and the alarm was still sounding. Then I tapped the switch with my knuckle and the alarm went off. I repeated the test and this time it turned on when filling but didn't work when drained again. So I grabbed it and manually changed its orientation. When fully lowered vertically, it continued to interfere. If its position changes jerkily by hand in any direction, it works. Unfortunately, the water in the pit doesn't physically behave that way, so I don't want to rely on that float switch to do its job, ie. gives me time to react to a failed septic tank and flooded basement. Would give 0 stars if possible.
