Review on DYMO CardScan v9 Executive Business Card Scanner and Contact Management System for PC or Mac - Enhanced SEO by Michael Olsen

Revainrating 3 out of 5

3 stars are waiting for help from DYMO.

I have been a regular Carscan user for many, many years. The device is invaluable if you work in sales or marketing and collect a lot of business cards. After switching to a Mac for work (I've been using Apple computers for over 30 YEARS), I finally decided in mid-2011 to skip trying to get my old PC version working under a virtual machine on my MBA and bought the 800c Mac version. Finding Rodi's review here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R13QH0ZJVRQTVU/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R13QH0ZJVRQTVU is completely true. I'm currently awaiting a response from DYMO Support for links to the "correct" software download. I hope to upgrade this review to 5 stars within < 24-48 hours. Setup: Mid-2011 31-inch MBA, 1.8GHz dual-core Core i7 processor, 4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory, OSX 10.7.2 Pros: The 800c is nicely packaged and starts right out of the box . Installing the software from the DVD using Apple's remote drive (the MBA does not have an optical drive) was a breeze. The scan speed is VERY fast - less than 1.5s per card - GOOD! also VERY fast - probably less than 3.0s per card for full color OCR - Accuracy is absolutely in line with my experience so far: not 100%, but better than anything else on the market - Hooray that the device is only USB powered becomes! Now I can put it in a drawer until I need it! No more clutter on your desk or another DC adapter to keep track of. This is a HUGE plus point in my book. I might even take it with me on my next international trip so I can throw away all the physical cards before my return flight. - The software seems very intuitive with little to no learning curve. - Familiar Cardscan editing mode, the scanned areas on the cards highlights you edits are still there - The app launches quickly and runs great - no sluggishness or crashes - Very reliable .VCF export included card packs (my plan is to click on the command of the cards I want to insert into Outlook, Batch export to .vcf files and drag and drop these files into Outlook) Cons: - The software will not be registered due to Rodi's warning. An endlessly spinning ball while waiting to be registered. Also, following Rody's warning, the software download could not be found on the DYMO website - come on DYMO, this is a documented issue from two months ago, please reach out to your web staff for support and links to fix. I don't want to contact your support team. You don't want me to contact your support team. Let's Help Each Other - Direct export to Outlook Mac 2011 would be great, but it could be a Microsoft issue, not a DYMO issue -- DYMO? - Export to address book is good but due to Microsoft/Apple issues with Outlook synchronization This is not an acceptable method of downloading maps in Outlook. Again, this is definitely not a DYMO issue, but a usability issue nonetheless. All in all I am very happy to report that the 800c performs almost as beautifully as I had hoped. I paid $85 for Neat Receipt's NeatWorks software hoping I could use my (AWESOME) Fujistsu ScanSnap S510M as a card scanner. As I feared, OCR Neat - a complete NO compared to Cardscan - is unbeatable. I've also tried using WorldCard Mobile, CamCard, and half a dozen other iOS apps to scan and recognize cards in my contact database. Some of them are pretty good for an odd one shot card. However, if you have a stack of 50+ cards on your desk and need to capture them all quickly and accurately, nothing beats Cardsscan. Let's hope DYMO does well. I would happily (and will) upgrade this review to 5 stars if they can fix the S/W registration issue quickly and permanently.
