Review on HP 2711X 27 Inch LED Monitor: Height & Tilt Adjustment, Plus 3D Capability by Scott Boyd

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The third 27 inch monitor I've tried. The best to date.

If you're looking for a 27-inch monitor in the $300 range, this is the one for you. I researched online and in stores and tried the Asus VE278Q and the Viewsonic VX2753MH. The Viewsonic had absolutely terrible color and contrast, and fiddling with the settings didn't help. The Asus had decent colors and contrast, but there was some odd pixelation in some parts of the display. This one was perfect right out of the box. Accurate and vibrant colors, sharp and clear images, a bright screen that can be adjusted without changing colors and doesn't generate as much heat as other monitors. I was a little apprehensive when I first saw the screen because it was so shiny you could literally use it as a mirror. But once you turn on the display, it's really not that bad. I have a large window in the room I use this monitor in and the only time the glare is a bit bothersome is when I'm viewing dark images, like watching a movie. The mostly black parts of the screen are strongly reflected when there is a window in the room. I don't even notice glare in the room lighting or at night. My only other complaint is that the contrast is a bit weak and the contrast setting on the monitor doesn't really adjust the contrast. However, there is a workaround for this. Go to your graphics card control panel and click Adjust desktop color settings. I increased the contrast and brightness by 5% and everything looks great. Bottom line, this is definitely the best 27-inch monitor in this price range. If that doesn't work for you then you need to bump the price range up to $600 because I promise you won't find anything better for $300.

Pros
  • Viewing angle 170/160 degrees
Cons
  • Long delivery
