Since my last scanner was blocked by a refusal to update its software, I finally bought a new model that was supposed to be an improvement over my previous ScanSnap. Notice I said what should be? The one I had was great, it had a button or little switch on my screen that I could use to tell it to scan single sided (since I don't often need the last few pages of documents). This option is gone now. The name "Progress" turned a one-button scan into a confusing mess on a touchscreen. The reference manual doesn't even have the word "simplex". Additionally, it wants to constantly give you notifications about what it has just scanned, which is more frustrating than helpful. This makes me realize that I can't use OCR on the document, which I like because there weren't any characters to recognize. Yes, and they want you to use their document organizer and use the scanner with a ScanSnap account and more annoying annoyances. They really need to go back to making good simple scanners without trying to make them so complicated that people just want to be frustrated with their products. .
