Uneven thickness.
I bought two packs of these gear pads and about half of them were about 3/4 inch thick as advertised and the rest were somewhere between that and almost 1 inch. It shouldn't matter much if you place them under a lab bench or something heavy like an air compressor, but if you want to deaden the noise of lighter equipment, you may have trouble keeping them level or stable with an unsuitable set of pads. appear to be of good quality themselves, it is unlikely that they are all made of the same material. Changing the thickness may not make sense for some applications.
