Update: - works well for making stamps and twigs - works better when baking pottery in an oven safe pan. I put the cornstarch on top of the bowl to keep it from sticking. I tried waiting 1 day before baking to see what would happen and it cracked while baking. my head I haven't done it since because it was too expensive to fire the pots for each fire. I also had assisted loading and firing experience. I decided to try this because I missed it. I played with it for about 30 minutes tonight and enjoyed it. I have to admit that this is different than the tone I'm used to. I find it more forgiving. It also feels firmer (less soft). I haven't had any issues with rips or tears, but I did use glue as the "joining material" and scored it everywhere I joined the clay. I used all the tools I normally use to burn clay. It was less messy and easier to clean than I'm used to. My only concern is that I wasn't sure when it would be finished. My oven usually cooks about twice as fast as recipes so I took it out after 8 minutes but not sure if it's done. I'm not sure how to check if it's done other than to see if it bends which could damage it if it doesn't dry. I didn't know either how long I could or should wait after building it to bake it. I used about 1/8 clay when making my little ring plate and decoration. got used to the little cat hairs in it. If you're trying to make a bowl, I would bake it in a bowl so it will hold its shape. I didn't do this because the bowl couldn't be used in the oven and it became more like a plate. I plan to make stamps and branches with it, but haven't done it yet. I will definitely use it again for fun. to make a bowl, I would bake it in a bowl so it will hold its shape.
