Best Pastel Stand for Beginners

As a pastelist with less than a year of experience I can say without qualification that Uart is one of the best pastel papers for beginners. Period. At the beginning of my journey into painting, I started with unpolished paper. Instead of layering colors in complex or pretty ways, I "made mud" on these unpolished papers. The Uart has a sandpaper-like finish. It holds many coats of paint, even more than you would hope for if you used a fixing spray on the first few coats. I'm a very clumsy artist, something I'm trying to fix, but even I can get 8 or 9 layers of paint in Uart. In my book, this is a great pastel support! Uart can handle any kind of underpainting you want to use. It can be applied to watercolor paints, oil stains, alcohol solutions, etc. without damaging the paper. The biggest downside to using a uart is that it will curl. I do most of my work, so it doesn't really matter to me. Some people think that the surface is hard for fingertips when drawing. I would be wary of aggressive finger mixing on it, but other than that I had no problems. Uart is available in different grits. I really like the 400, it's a medium range. It is a pleasure to work with him and the good results make me paint more often. Highly recommended!

  • Can be used for painting with a variety of mediums including water, oil, mineral spirits, turpentine and alcohol
Cons
  • Not bad but...
