Review on Zoom 5241 Ethernet USB Cable Modem by Michael Foster

pays for itself in a year and works great

I didn't want to pay a cable company for a monthly use of a modem, so I bought a Zoom cable modem. It's been over a year and now it's paid for itself and it's still working. So it was a decision I can't complain about. Zoom has been around for a long time. I once had a Zoom modem connected to my phone and it was great quality. This one is no different. In fact, I suspect it works better than my cable company's because many people I know who have high-speed from the same cable company (I won't name names) complain that their services are severely underutilized. I seem to have a lot fewer problems than they do and I suspect this modem could be the reason. Just today I was helping a friend troubleshoot internet problems. You have a modem supplied by the cable company. Your DNS settings were wrong so I fixed it but it still didn't work. I called their support team and they had to reset the modem on their end to get it working. It worked fine for about 10 minutes and then shut down again so I told my friend to go out and replace the modem. I don't think I've ever had to do this with my Zoom cable modem. Usually when I have connection problems it is related to my wireless router and after the reset everything works fine. So I'm thinking about calling my friend later and suggesting that he just tell the cable company to take their modem and buy his own Zoom modem.
