I bought this as an alternative to paper litter for my rat cage as there were several problems with paper litter and mites/baking soda. You can definitely buy large bags of aspen from pet stores or large pet stores, but I live nearby and only need a couple of weeks. I haven't had any issues with it (it's not particularly dusty or too small), I just wish the bag was a little bigger for the price.
