Review on HUO JI E-Yooso Z-88 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard: Brown Switches, Programmable RGB Backlit, 104 Keys, Hot Swappable - Silver and White by Jerardo Phi

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Competes with many of my more expensive mechanical keyboards.

I'm really impressed with this keyboard. This is my fourth mechanical keyboard. This is a replacement for a Corsair K70 keyboard with cherry red switches that my dog spilled coffee on. I also have a Ducky keyboard with cherry brown switches that mostly still work. I also have a small Corsair keyboard with cherry blue switches that still works. So I have experience with cherry brown, red and blue switches. The brown Outemu switches on the motherboard are very similar to the cherry brown switches on my duck keyboard. They seem to need a bit more activation strength, but I don't have anything available to measure strength, so this is my subjective opinion. The two things I really miss about my Corsair keyboard are the pass-through USB port and a dedicated volume control. Of course, the Corsair costs over $100 more than this keyboard, and the extras it offers don't necessarily justify the cost. What I like about this keyboard: 1. It's relatively inexpensive.2. Interchangeable switches. If I want to use clear top black Gateron switches, they are easy to change. If my dog ever spills coffee on my keyboard again, I might just swap out a few switches.3. Programmable keyboard lighting. I have a keyboard with red keys, WASD and amber arrow keys. Detachable USB cable.5. USB cable management.6. A little more switch activation pressure. A lot of people would take this as a negative, but the MX cherry reds on my Corsair would sometimes catch my fingers just leaning against the keyboard. What I don't like: 1. The build quality isn't perfect. There are rough edges on the sides of the keyboard where the top attaches to the bottom of the case.2. Plastic deck. My Corsair has an aluminum deck that feels more solid than my Z-88.3. No pass-through USB.4. USB cable is not braided.5. Not waterproof. Contrary to the product description, this keyboard is not waterproof. If you go to Corsair's website and look at the K68 keyboard, if they show a picture of the switches, you'll see that the keyboard is covered in some sort of plastic or rubber film that makes it waterproof. You won't find such a film on the Z-88. The 4 drainage holes at the bottom of the keyboard will not make your keyboard waterproof. I did a search to see if I could find a video of someone testing this keyboard for water resistance but couldn't find it. No dedicated volume control. Despite this keyboard's flaws, I think it's probably the best keyboard you can get for the money. When I look at my screen and type, I feel as good as any of my other mechanical keyboards, most of which cost more than double the price of this keyboard. I would definitely buy this keyboard again and will happily recommend it to my friends. .
