I got this after seeing the mat the caregiver used to keep the child in their own space which helped keep the boundaries of not just one child but several. They were smaller than I expected (it's my fault for not reading carefully), but when assembled in blocks of four or more, they work just like the rug she used. I was just shocked when my grandkids liked them. Two of them prefer video games. All three play with it all the time. They like to make squares, rectangular blocks, small car tents and other structures out of it. The other day my six year old grandson played with these alone for hours, even stacking them together with an empty space in the middle, leaning them against chairs and standing in the back so his face could be seen through the empty space. They allow you to play with your imagination. I also used them combined for my 3 month old grandson to cover him with a thin blanket while he was lying on his stomach. This works well because I don't have a carpet in my living room. I love her. Order more but now look for a good deal on a larger set.
