Review on CURT 56258 Custom Wiring Harness by Kendrick Dooley

Warning: Emptor will not work with 2013 MKZ

Curt is a branded player but this was a disappointment. First I have to compliment Kurt because they were very helpful in figuring out why the brake lights weren't working. They even sent me a replacement strap. After trying various diagnostics, it became increasingly clear that the problem was in the design. I finally found out that the brake light signal doesn't run on the same wires as the signals. Since the wiring harness is specifically designed for this, it means there was no connection of brake lights from the connectors to the module. Although Kurt has now admitted that that won't work and I need a universal harness, they won't convert the original to a generic one. BTW: Installing a universal one is not an easy task, apart from the additional $20 cost difference. To make it work you need to connect the wires instead of "plug and play" (except for the ground and power wire). I was able to disassemble the non-working one by unscrewing the connectors on it. However, I had to return it on credit. The solution was to see if I could find another manufacturer. I contacted eTrailer. Their support team knew about the two, recommended the fastest shipping, and since they also install (locally) they just used the kit on my machine. It came in less than a week. It was true plug and play. Brake lights work. Anyone want to buy a kit? Although my car is from 2013, it probably doesn't fit as well as an SUV in other years.
