Optimal internet user. Hope this saves me $

I've been an Optimal user in New York for over 10 years and I've been billed $10 a month to rent this exact modem. I have paid for this modem many times. I'm not sure why it took me so long to buy it. Very fast delivery of the package, it was well packed, with new cables, electricity and ethernet. The activation instructions say plug it in and wait an hour for the firmware to load. Then call your server to activate it. But when I opened my package I immediately called Optimum to register my modem. I saw a couple of reviews here saying they were having a hard time and suggested calling first to register it with Optimum, which I did. While the tech was registering the modem, she asked me to turn it on, plug it in - and after about 5 minutes it was working as soon as she sent a signal. I was so amazed at how quick and easy it was, I foresaw the problems. All I had to do to get my internet up and running at full capacity was reboot (unplug and plug back in) my router for the new signal to sync. I immediately made the long and arduous journey to Optimum to return a rented Arris modem (where I waited 40 minutes in line with other customers returning devices, texting). Optimum informed me that MY NEXT bill would not reflect the $10 modem rental fee - they did not tell me the modem registered was a stolen Optimum modem. So I will update the information next month if I have an issue saying this modem helped whether the optimal updated modem was stolen or not. to be exact
