Review on Midwest Model 5600 Gallon Spill by Paul Giordano

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent canister, Terrible spout

A very high quality gas cylinder made from relatively thick plastic. The top and rear handles make it relatively easy to maneuver and hold a full can. The downside to this can (like all modern EPA-approved gas cylinders) is the spout. First, the instructions for using the spout are under the label on the front of the jar and are not obvious. My wife and I spent a lot of time "freeing" the spout to allow the water to flow. After finally finding the instructions, we were a little struck by the unsuccessful design of the trigger mechanism. The instructions say to take the spout (probably not on the glass yet) and press the red tab on a flat surface until it clicks. Place the spout on the canister and push the black spout bottle (just in front of the red tab) onto the filler neck/tank you want to fill. As soon as you release the pressure on the bar, the outlet valve will engage. My wife and I repeatedly pressed the red latch before finding the instructions, but I don't think there is a living person who could manually press it. I quickly broke the jar's screw top and cut off the locking tab that you have to press to unscrew it. I've done this with every gas can I have. I have posted and ordered a plain spout from Revain to replace the crazy one that comes with the canister and I highly recommend getting one of the plain spouts at the same time if you are buying this gas.
