This square is well constructed and easy to read. I also have an old Stanley combination square of the same design, as well as a solid wood and brass square. Squareness is the same compared to the Stanley, but legibility of measurements goes to the Starrett. Also, the Starrett's swing clamp is sturdier and easier to operate when that makes sense. I feel like the improved Starrett design really makes up for the increased price (about $20 for the Stanley versus $100+ for the Starrett). Fair deal but then again I was comparing it to an old 1980's Stanley. The solid wood and brass square, also made before the 1980s, can only be used to measure squareness, the measurements are really difficult to read. I would recommend this range to anyone looking to upgrade or make a high end first purchase.
