This square is well constructed and easy to read. I also have an old Stanley combination square of the same design, as well as a solid wood and brass square. Squareness is the same compared to the Stanley, but legibility of measurements goes to the Starrett. Also, the Starrett's swing clamp is sturdier and easier to operate when that makes sense. After years of struggling with my Irwin Combo Square I finally got fed up with it. The twist screw to tighten the ruler on the handle "worked" but often I needed pliers to try to loosen the thing again because it was stuck and wouldn't unbuckle by hand.
