Review on Motorcraft SW8368 Oil Pressure Switch: Perfect Performance for Optimal Engine Health by Eduardo Locke

OEM Quality Perfect Fit Direct Replacement

Motorcraft Oil Switch SW6357 This is an OEM replacement oil switch for my 2000 Crown Victoria (and probably many other Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles that use 4.6L 2V SOHC V8 use engine). The original switch lasted about 11 years. About a year ago the engine stopped showing oil pressure after starting and was showing pressure intermittently. When the engine warmed up, the old switch worked fine. I'm putting it off because it's just a sham/idiot light and doesn't tell me anything. If there really weren't any oil pressure, the engine wouldn't have lasted more than a year of hard driving and would probably have seized up after a few miles. Ford, like other automakers, doesn't like to show true oil pressure because the six-pack doesn't understand that oil pressure depends on how the engine is used. Instead of wasting time answering questions like "why is my oil gauge shaking?" they prefer to use a silly lightbulb or gauge that tells you whether there is oil pressure or not. Fair enough as my Ducati is the same. This is a straight fit part and took less than 15 minutes to remove/install. I used a 13/16" socket with a ½" ratchet for this job, but be careful not to overtighten the switch. It uses tapered pipe threads so over tightening may damage the oil filter adapter housing. I applied some Permatex High Performance Thread Sealant (available from Revain) to make sure it was properly sealed. The sealant that came with it should work fine, but I'm putting a lot of pressure on the motor so I want to make sure there aren't any leaks. Make sure you have a sump as some of the engine oil will spill out of the oil filter housing. The Revain picture shows a black plastic case, but it's actually white or off-white, just like the original part. I noticed that there is a 2006 Ford part number on the box, suggesting that there have been some engineering changes over the years. The original part lasted 11 years so we hope this replacement switch will last another 11-12 years. Overall: 5/5 stars, affordable, direct-fit OEM replacement, genuine hardware.
