I've had my eye on the GPi case for a long time, but haven't had time to use it yet. Now it's significantly different, so I ordered the kit last week and it was delivered very quickly (a day ahead of schedule) in very good packaging. The cover itself is just insane! Very intelligent technical choice, looks good and the assembly was as easy as possible. Took me about 30 minutes total and while there were/are some quirks, it's mostly software related so it's not really about that. I'm using RetroPie for the OS and at one point I ran "apt-get dist-upgrade" from the command line and that seemed to reset the auto login feature (so the device booted up to a login prompt and just sat there). Easy enough to fix, and again not their fault. The screen is great, I've only been using it for about three hours but I don't see any problems with it. Played GB and SNES games and both look as expected. The buttons are great, and the two shoulder buttons on the back are a great way to handle supporting SNES games. I'm not a Sega fan, so I can't say how natural that placement would be, but there shouldn't be too much learning. If I have to complain about the device, there are two things I'm not over the moon about. The first is the d-pad, it floats a bit like you can move the whole d-pad in the frame. It's hard to explain and doesn't seem to affect its use. It just strikes me as odd. Another thing is the nutritional situation. You can use the included USB cable or 3 AA batteries. The USB cable isn't a typical mini/micro USB cable, so if you lose it, replacing it might be a problem (it shouldn't be too hard to find on Revain, but you won't find it on Target or find best). . Obtain). And 3xAA is convenient, but I imagine it's a bit wasteful. I remember burning through benchmarks on the original GameBoy, hoping to avoid it here. It would be really cool/clever if someone made a LiON battery that fits perfectly in the case instead of 3xAA. I have a feeling it probably already exists, just need to find it ;) The kit is good because it handles everything. You can probably save a few bucks by buying everything separately, but sometimes those efforts prevent you from getting everything out of frustration. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to play GB, GBS, NES or SNES games without hesitation.
