Review on ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Kinivo BTD-400 USB Bluetooth Adapter for PC - Bluetooth 4.0, Low Energy, Windows/Raspberry Pi/Linux Compatible by Scott Mauri

compatible with macOS (OS X)!

I bought this adapter on the recommendation of an article on the web about increasing the Bluetooth range on a MacBook laptop. When I'm at home, I connect my MacBook Pro to an Apple Thunderbolt Display and attach my laptop to the back of the display using a third-party device designed for this purpose. This works great, except the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Trackpad I use with my computer have intermittent loose connections, resulting in jerky cursor movement and laggy response to key presses. And if I took my keyboard and/or trackpad off my desk and put it on my lap, for example, the connection would be lost. The mentioned article states that there are very few USB Bluetooth adapters compatible with Mac. The article also included the tedious steps that needed to be followed in order for this adapter to work properly with Mac. In my case, I didn't have to follow any of the steps shown in the article. As soon as I plugged it in, the MacBook switched from using the internal Bluetooth adapter to using the Kinivo. Also, Kinivo runs off a USB 3.0 hub plugged into the back of my Thunderbolt display. It doesn't sleep while the computer sleeps, and pressing the Shift key wakes the computer up. Restarting a computer with the Kinivo connected does not switch the computer to the MacBook's internal Bluetooth adapter. The range has increased significantly, the trackpad works smoothly, there are no lags when pressing buttons, and now I can use the keyboard and trackpad on my lap without losing the connection between them. In other words, the behavior of this adapter is exactly how you want it to be without going through the extra steps described in the article above. I told the computer to "forget" my keyboard and trackpad while both were connected to the MacBook's internal Bluetooth adapter and before I connected Kinivo. I then had to reconnect my keyboard and trackpad to my computer after he switched to using the Kinivo as an active Bluetooth adapter. Depending on your configuration, you may get different results. For reference, I'm using a mid-2012 15-inch MacBook Pro with macOS 10.14.6 "Mojave". some may find this distracting.
