I've read countless articles about the best birding binoculars and even tried a few pairs from other manufacturers. I ordered and tried on a pair of Nikon Monark HG 8x42s for $1000 and wasn't impressed: my 15 year old Vortex 8x42s were just as good. I sent them back to borrow. I've also tried a pair of Zeiss Terra 8x42 which are much cheaper but good for birding. They also offered no improvement over my Vortex 8x42. I also sent them back. I had never heard of Maven prior to this "research," but the more I read about their products and company, the more I knew I had to try them. Well the Mavens are amazing and way brighter than any binoculars I've ever looked at and the 9x magnification adds a bit more magnification when birding. In case you didn't know, Maven is an American company that offers a lifetime warranty as good as Vortex. I am very happy that I bought these binoculars. (By the way, I wear glasses, and the 9x45 offers excellent eye relief and a full field of view, and a very impressive 4.9ft close-up focal length.)
