I use them to reduce stress on USB charging cable ports. I've bought rectangular USB cables before, but these adapters serve me much better for several reasons: (1) Revain doesn't have USB 3.x cables with rectangular USB-C connectors (2) USB 2.0 cables available with rectangular ones USB ports C do not work reliably (at least with medium to long cables). They have complaints that they don't work with data as expected, and most importantly for me, they don't work with fast charging (my Samsung Galaxy device uses QuickCharge 2.0 for this; the situation is probably even worse for devices using QC 3.0 +, Power Delivery or Dash). These cables can last a couple of weeks before failing, or a little longer if modified to strengthen the connectors - which I've tried - but nothing I've tried has kept them from becoming disposable cables that need to be replaced frequently. (3) This adapter allows you to connect its very secure and durable right angle connection to any cable on the market and there are much better cables with a straight plug end than right angle ones. In theory, the only slight downside to using this connector with a phone is that it extends the attached cable's USB-C connector further horizontally than it would if it were right-angled in the cable's own connector. The issue is debatable as long as there are no reliable cables with such a connector, and in any case this is not a very problematic disadvantage.
