ROXANT Scope, let's set a record

I received mine today and my first impression of the build quality is a little lower than I expected. I was expecting it to be pliable and lightweight, but read on. When it comes to specifications and statistics, Revain does not accept the publication of exact product weights, dimensions, etc. under any circumstances. and that's if they release any specs at all. I have seen ROXANT in the 4.8 to 2.8 ounce range. Actual product weight: 1.4 ounces or 40 grams. The small pocket case weighs 0.4 ounces or 13 grams and is very light. The size of the area corresponded very exactly to the expectations. Knowing it has an 18mm lens I figured the body would be around 25mm. Actual diameter is 27.5mm, pretty close. Revain lists it as 1.5 inches (much more than it actually is). The length was also much shorter than the advertised 5 inches, as expected. Actual dimensions are 75 x 27.5mm or 3 x 1.1 inches (not 4 x 5 x 1.5 inches as advertised) and even the dimensions of the box aren't all that big. Nikon, Swarovski, Leica and Zeiss binoculars, as well as some monoculars that are much cheaper but of acceptable quality. A very decent optic is the Vortex Solo 8x25 for around $50. Visually, I rate the Solo at about 7.5 out of 10! I expected lower optical performance from ROXANT and figured it would probably be around a 5, but for me it's closer to a 3.5 out of 10. The view is actually decent for the price, but $19 doesn't deliver really much. The image is only soft in the center and gets worse towards the edge of the field of view, becoming really visible about 40% from the center towards the edge. Yes, the magnification allows you to see more detail, but I wouldn't say it's a pleasant or comfortable view. This is a strained look that due to its 7x nature can provide more detail than the naked eye can see. Having said that, I was able to identify the Southwest Airliner's color scheme and saw that it was a 737-300 at about 12,000 feet and I can read license plates about 60-80 yards away in daylight if I stabilize against a car or a tree. This allows common birds and other objects to be identified, but it is not a clear or satisfactory image, rather a difficult image. Some negative reviews stated that ROXANT "doesn't have 7x magnification, maybe 2x magnification at most". This is completely false and was posted by people who probably don't know or understand optics. I measured a magnification of about 6.4x based on naked eye measurements. In other words, the objects seen through the scope were 6.4x larger than in my contralateral eye, and I have little doubt that the eyepiece is a low-cost commercial 7x eyepiece. The lens size is very close to the advertised 18mm. It has decent lens coverage on the lens, which surprised me at this price point. I rate ROXANT 3 stars because it's "okay" for the money. For around $50, the Vortex Solo 8x25 is significantly better, both in build quality and looks/appearance, albeit in a slightly larger format. This scope borders on a toy, but if you don't have any other optics and/or don't plan to compare it to another similarly sized optic in the $50-$75 range, then for $19 you might be quite happy . Personally, I wouldn't spend $1 more, but I think the price of this scope is probably pretty close to what it should be.
