Review on Gardner Bender SDT 10 Circuit Screwdriver by William Groupp

Revainrating 1 out of 5

A great concept is an unwanted and potentially dangerous tool.

A really nice driver/tester at first glance_right? Tension Sensor Screwdriver 10-in-1! But no. Problems arise as soon as you try to insert the supplied batteries into the sensor. The included small Phillips tip was perfect for loosening the screw holding the battery compartment. But the lid could not be removed despite all attempts at peeping, pushing, pulling, turning, knocking and verbal persuasion. Okay, so it's still a great driver_right? Not correct. Well managed to loosen the first square screw on the bottom rail in the panel housing. Moving on to the second screw, I found that the tip was missing. Yes, he was still stuck in the first screw. So I must not have properly planted it in the driver. I removed it from the head of the screw, taking extra care to secure it in the screwdriver. Big. I go back to the second screw and loosen the second screw. Again the driver comes out naked. Well, maybe it's just that advice. I switch to a large cross square, only to have it fall to the bottom of the panel after loosening a screw. You really don't want metal objects moving freely in a box full of electrical connections. (And believe it or not, some not-so-wise people work with electricity without completely shutting it off. Why do you think they supply these tools with insulated rods and handles.) It doesn't take long to figure out what's involved The shank has no recess to hold the ball lock at the tip. A great concept is an unwanted and potentially dangerous tool.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Not the best
