Review on Audio-Technica AT-LPW40WN Review: Fully Manual Belt-Drive Turntable with 2 Speeds and Dynamic Anti-Skate Control by Dan Buycks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not impressed with the thickness

Revain asked me to rate the thickness of this turntable (from 1 to 5 stars). I'm really not impressed with its thickness. It seems to be about the same thickness as any other turntable I've seen. It's not wafer thin or actually not damn thick. But otherwise he plays records. The built in preamp is great allowing this unit to work with my head unit which doesn't have a built in phono stage. I like that the built-in preamp can be switched off. I like that the head unit and cartridge seem to be of very good quality. Can I hear how beautiful the carbon fiber tonearm is? I do not think so? I mean I've never had a carbon fiber arm but it looks like carbon fiber and carbon fiber has historically been very expensive and probably still is? Right? Anyway, that thing plays records! He does the job he was hired to do! I hear an improvement in tone over my old direct drive decks which were admittedly of average quality and very old and dented as hell from being lugged around a long long time ago when I was playing records at Burrow. Wall bars and house parties. This player is very quiet when playing the recordings I mostly listen to now which tend to be quieter recordings. There is now no hum and other garbage. Is this the best player of all time? I have no idea. I mean probably not. There are no lasers in it and the wood grain is just veneer. But is this the best album I've ever had? And maybe that was the most I wanted to spend on a turntable and now I'm glad I bought it and now I can get rid of one of my ramshackle old decks that's maybe $9? It's damn yes, amigo.
