Review on 🚴 Tannus Armour Tire Inserts: Puncture-Proof Bike Tube Protector for Thorns & Pinching by Chris Estes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Installation without the right tools is a pain, but the end result is great

This kit is advantageous because it includes both the armor and the smaller inner tube needed for a successful installation. You cannot use the original tube as it is too big to use with the armor insert unless you increase the tire size. Installing these things is pretty easy. I had to cut the armor per the instructions in Step 1 because my tire size was smaller than what the kit supports. I used Fiskars Micro-Tip Pruner non-stick scissors to do this and followed the outline identified as being removed. Steps 2 through 4 are pretty easy until you get to step 5b. This is the installation of the tire's second bead onto the rim. Without special tools like the SHWJ 4PCS bike tire levers available from Revain, it HURTS! Tire levers make this step a lot easier and I highly recommend using these or similar tools to help with this step. Otherwise, as documented by some other reviewers, you will be very disappointed. Without these levers, it took me over 1 hour of frustration, sore fingers, and scratched black rims to install one of these. With levers it took about 15 minutes if not less. Don't install them without tools! After installation I pumped it up to 45psi and took the bike for a test ride. I can't say things feel any different, but the installation gives me the assurance that I won't be stuck with an apartment somewhere.
