These reviews seem to mix all 3 sizes. The 3 cup model (the smallest) has NO warming or steaming insert and the cord is not detachable. It just makes great rice, especially if you're experienced with one of those simple pots. Got it to replace a 1974 National (Panasonic) which still works! Thoroughly rinsing and soaking the rice will minimize spitting through the small hole in the lid. Zojirushi has great detailed instructions in the Recipes section of his website. Want the perfect brown rice? Use 2 cups of rice (measuring cup provided, this is a standard Japanese glass = 3/4 US cup), rinse several times in a separate container, soak for half an hour and drain the water, put the rice in a saucepan, add water to a 0 .4 liter line, cover, press button and leave alone. Never lift the lid and leave it for 15-20 minutes after turning off. The rice comes out slightly sticky and not mushy at all - comes out just as good as the fuzzy logic model I got for my son, which automates the pre-soak step and temperature setting.
