I drilled a 1" hole instead of a 1.25" hole and inserted the socket with the smaller diameter part and it worked great. I've run a lot of wire through an existing hole without having to cut part of the end to open up a larger hole. Seems to seal very well. Sturdy rubber construction, I think it will last quite a long time. Perfect product for punching a hole firewalls and running wire.
