Review on πŸ“€ Sony BDP-S185 Blu-Ray Disc Player (2012 Model): High-Quality Entertainment at Your Fingertips by Darin Marshall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked better than I expected.

At first I took this Blu-ray player to play Blu-ray discs and I wasn't interested in aspects of its operation. I was wondering how well this would work on my network since I have a cable modem, router, HP 6940 printer and two computers. Because when I first put this network together I decided to go with a 4 port router as I really didn't think I would ever have more than two or three computers and a network printer so 4 ports seemed to be enough. I had a 4 port Linksys switch that I used before I got the router. So if I needed more than four ports, it made sense to return the switch. I added an uplink switch to my router when I needed extra access to the kitchen. Anyway, since there's four devices connected to the router (a switch, two computers, and a printer), I plug a kitchen outlet into the switch and a new Sony Blu-Ray into the switch. After connecting to the TV. (There was no problem and after plugging in the network cable (Cat6) I turned on the system. It turned on with no problems and I checked the settings and they all looked fine. I checked the network settings and set up the player. connected to my network with no problems. To be sure, I checked the information in the network settings and found that the player has configured itself to the exact IP address needed to connect over my network to connect over the internet. Then I selected the activation menu, and the system did it without any problems. It seemed that all the settings and everything was working correctly. I then checked the Blu-ray disc and it played flawlessly. All controls were fine and the only issue I had was a menu popping up a little slowly. I've had good luck with Sony products and have had several of them. (Cassette players, condenser mics, VCRs, both beta and VHS) Everything worked pretty well. and I remember almost all of them had some minor glitches at first, but they usually went away, if the subject got a little bokeh. This player just showed a small slow popup menu, that's all. The playback quality is excellent, the sound is good. It played both Blu-Rays and DVDs with no problems. The network connection was reliable, and I didn't notice any problems with his broadband setup and Internet access through the switch, router, and cable modem, right out of the box. The only thing I miss is the lack of a display on the front, but that was a minor point. I was very surprised by the small size and footprint of the player. It's very compact and fits almost any rack you want to place. If you are looking for a wired Blu-ray player that won't cost you an arm or a leg and is well priced then this is the player you should check out. but that was a side issue.
