Bought this expander despite mixed reviews. Many people report that removing threads makes the tool unusable. To avoid this, I disassembled the tool before using it and oiled the threads and the sliding surfaces. My threads broke the first time I used it. Luckily the threads on the long center screw were fine. The nut's thread succumbed. I was fortunate to have a spare class 8 nut on hand - 1/2 inch x 20 tpi. A perfect replacement for the one that came with the tool. With my replacement part, the tool worked as expected. The fabrication was quick and easy work to install my exhaust pipe. If the manufacturer replaces the nut with a hardened version, they will likely resolve the stripping issues reported by many of their customers. This would of course make the product more expensive by a few cents. But the result would be a reliable tool.
