I bought these to use on knives I make after hardening. For the price I figured even a knife would work to try them out. So far I have sharpened all teeth very quickly and satisfactorily. The bits didn't seem to care that the knife was already hardened, they gnawed through with no signs of wear. I also used them to clean up some of the decorative files I made on the spine of the book and they worked great. When worn out after more abuse, they're still worth their money. For information: The knife is made of steel 1084 and 15N20 and has not been hardened. Update: August 9th, 2020 and they're still nibbling on metal. Since they cut metal instead of grinding it like sandpaper, be prepared for tiny slivers of metal. This is a great purchase.
