Received quickly, works great.

I bought a refurbished unit because I know it will work when it leaves the factory. Free shipping and received within 3 days. Purchased from eComm Electronics. This unit has many features that I will never use as I only ordered it to rip all my VCRs to DVD. I did an excellent job on this and was very easy to use. And of course it also plays copy-protected videocassettes that I have and still want to play from time to time. I connected it to my TV with an HDMI cable (not included). He rewrote all my tapes recorded 1985-1998 with no problems. For the refurbished unit, the instruction manual was a photocopy and many pages (since it has a lot of great features). If you only want to rip VCR to DVD, for best results, do the following: (1) Set "Source" on the device to "VCR", (2) Insert a videocassette, fast forward to the end and back. (Don't skip this step, especially if your tapes are old. Playback will be better then and you won't have to worry about tracking). (3) Press "Play" on the remote control, and when you get the part you want to copy, press "Pause" on the remote control. (3) Set the "Source” on the device to "dvd”, insert the DVD and wait for it to load. (4) Press the red "Overwrite" button on the device or remote control and the copying process will start. (Make sure the device has a red overwrite indicator above the clock.) (5) When the tape is finished, wait for the DVD to transfer the recording (the progress is shown on the screen). (6) FINALIZE You need to do this if you want to play your DVDs on other DVD players. You can set the device to automatically exit when the end of the tape is reached, but this doesn't work until you reach the end of the tape. To do it manually: When the recording is finished, press the "Stop" button on the side of the DVD device, then press the "Set" button on the remote control. You will see some options on the screen. Select Edit Disc and then FINALIZE. The screen will show progress until this is done. Take a DVD and test it on another player. I checked them on my computer. This device has ports so you can also copy from an external source (camcorder etc) but you will need to learn this from the manual. In summary: great price, fast free shipping, easy to use, did everything I wanted.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
