Review on Victorinox RH Forschner BladeSafe: Ultimate Protection for 6-Inch to 8-Inch Knife Blades by Marcos Fiallo

Great knife guard, weird residue

I needed a knife guard that met three criteria: it protects the knife from knocks in the drawer, the guard itself doesn't damage the knife, and it should be fine to travel. I originally bought one of these along with a Fibrox chef's knife a few years ago. I have since purchased two more of these knife guards as they meet and exceed my original three criteria. I travel a lot with my knives. This Victorinox knife guard has rubber pads on the inside of the guard that hold the blade securely in place. The two latches lock and unlock easily and give very clear tactile and audible feedback when in use. Overall perfect design. I ended up trying the guard on my other knives (5" Santoku and 6" Nakiri). Since both go so well together, I immediately bought another pair of these Victorinox arm protectors. location) to leave visible marks on the knives. I've cleaned the guards a few times so I'm pretty sure the leftovers aren't packaging or manufacturing related at this point so I think it must be the material of the pads themselves. The residue is negligible, barely noticeable and washes off easily, but I wonder how long the pads will last if washed like this.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
